Twenty titles have been selected for the 2020-2021 Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List during the Texas Book Festival recently. The nominees, 4 of which are published or distributed by PRH, were unveiled by 19 students from the Central Texas Area.

Each year, 20 books are chosen for the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List. Schools and libraries around the state participate in the program, encouraging students to read a minimum of five books from the list. In January, students vote for their favorite title. The author of the book receiving the most votes wins the Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA) which is presented at the Texas Bluebonnet Award Luncheon held during the TLA Annual Conference in the spring.

Students, parents, teachers, librarians, booksellers, and authors eagerly await the yearly release. ‘Since the first Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List was created, the excitement about this children’s choice award has grown beyond the borders of Texas,’ said Jacqui Bridges-Sheppherd, TBA coordinator. ‘Our primary goals are to introduce children to a variety of quality books, develop critical reading skills, and honor and encourage imaginative authors. The committee considers more than 500 books in order to select five outstanding books of various genres for grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.’ —TXLA.org
