MABEL WATTS was born in London, England in 1906. Because her father was in the British Army, her family moved around England and Canada many times, until she married, moved to California, and became an American citizen. She began writing children's books in 1950.

ART SEIDEN was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1923. He received a BA at Queens College and studied for eight years at the Art Students League. Seiden illustrated over 300 books and was both author and artist of at least 22 children's books for virtually every major publisher in America. He is also the illustrator of The Train to Timbuctoo, a Little Golden Book by Margaret Wise Brown
