Hope Is a Rainbow

Illustrated by Vicki Gausden
Look inside
This adorable board book, which includes a soft, padded rainbow, features reassuring text about hope and happiness, as well as stunning illustrations.

Rainbows are a symbol of hope and better times ahead after the rain. A rainbow spreads its magic cheer and chases away the gloom, no matter how sad or down we feel. But the brightest rainbow lives inside the heart, where its colors shine and give hope on even the darkest days. This sweet board book, which features stunning illustrations and a soft, padded rainbow, includes rhyming text that’s just right for reading aloud or sharing with a little one for a quiet story time.

Danielle McLean is a children's book editor who lives in South London, England. When she's not writing and editing children's books, she can be found in a ballet class pursuing her other childhood dream.

Vicki Gausden spent her childhood in various military camps scattered around the globe and is primarily solar-powered, most likely due to her Maltese genes. She spends most of her income funding her book habit and has a slight obsession with the 6B pencil. She’s been a vegetarian since the age of 11 and is a proud Blue Peter badge-holder. She attained a BA (with honors) and MDes in illustration from Edinburgh College of Art, and currently lives on the edge of the South Downs with two ridiculously small dogs and one very patient husband.
PreS-K–The illustrator of this board book has ensured that a diversity of family structures and members of varying abilities are represented, as one kiss is delivered for “I help you pick up all these toys,” and a second kiss when another child eats the last piece of broccoli. Readers witness one joyful household after another closing down the day from tub to table to bed, when the stars come out and 10 kisses are offered to help sleep last the whole night long. Fuzzy textures on every page will have children reaching for comfort. VERDICT An easy book to recommend for the parent shelves, for those seeking to establish toddler routines. While it’s not essential, it is very sweet. --School Library Journal
