Happy Halloween

A touch-and-feel book

Illustrated by Lucy Barnard
Look inside
Toddlers can experience the fun and spookiness of Halloween night as they explore the touch-and-feel textures in this adorable rhyme!

It's Halloween night, and everyone is done trick-or-treating. Pumpkin meets Ghost, Skeleton, and Bat, and the group heads over to Black Cat's house, where the Halloween party will begin! Simple rhyming text, bold and colorful artwork, and touch-and-feel textures on each spread make this a fun, interactive Halloween book for toddlers.
Rosie Adams lives in Lancashire, England, with three dogs and a goldfish named Bert. She loves to write stories about animals and nature. In her spare time, she likes painting, traveling, and taking long walks in the countryside.

Lucy Barnard is from Cheltenham but now lives in Manchester with her husband and two children. After completing her art foundation course in Cheltenham and her illustration degree in Exeter, she worked at various publishing companies in London before becoming a freelance illustrator. She worked for many years with acrylic paint and pencils but has adapted her illustration style and now works digitally. As well as illustrating for others, she also writes and illustrates her own stories, quite often inspired by her children!

Baby-Toddler–It’s Halloween, and the trick-or-treaters have gone, so now pumpkin gets to have some fun! In this gentle introduction to typical Halloween characters and themes, readers follow Pumpkin, who rolls along and soon meets Ghost. The two set out on a path to go “happy haunting,” but after scaring Skeleton in the forest, it’s Bat that scares them in the pumpkin patch. The story ends in a Halloween party at Black Cat’s haunted house. The beautifully drawn illustrations feature traditional Halloween hues of purple, orange, black, brown, and green. Each character’s expressions are happy and adorable, rather than scary. Toddlers will enjoy finding all the sets of eyes peeking out from bushes and trees, as well as identifying the many animals included within the pages. Each spread features a just right in length abcb rhyming pattern and a different surface for kids to touch and feel, including a fuzzy pumpkin, smooth and slick ghost, leathery bat wing, and fluffy cat hair. VERDICT A perfectly delightful, not frightful, touch-and-feel Halloween book to include in little reader collections. --School Library Journal
