Linda J. Barth is a retired fourth-grade teacher who lives in Somerville, New Jersey. She is very active in the Canal Society of New Jersey, one of the largest historical societies in the state.

John A. Roebling opened his wire-rope factory in Trenton and made cables for many suspension bridges and aqueducts. The Brooklyn Bridge is his company’s most famous creation.
 
The state seal has three plows and a horse to remind us that farming is New Jersey’s heritage. Liberty, carrying a liberty cap, and Ceres, holding a horn of plenty, stand on either side.
 
The Grounds for Sculpture, in Hamilton, feature 3-D versions of French Impressionist paintings! Stroll the grounds and have a picnic among these fascinating sculptures.
