"Big fun. Both clever and beautiful, this board book uses die-cut holes, bright colors, and clean, sophisticated graphic design to help toddlers identify all the circles around them."—The New York Times

This board book full of circles and clever cut-outs is a wonderful way to introduce babies and toddlers to shapes.

Is it a balloon? An apple? A piece of candy or a flower? Read aloud and create a clever guessing game about shapes that will delight and stimulate the youngest readers. Circles are everywhere, and the shapes and colors found in everyday objects come to life when the pages of the book are turned.

Learning shapes is a lot of fun when there are surprises involved—this die-cut board book from master artist and designer Yusuke Yonezu is full of them.
Yusuke Yonezu was born in Tokyo, Japan, where he still lives with his wife and children. As a child he loved to draw and make toys out of paper and boxes. He went on to study design and became the creator of many board books, puzzles, and toys beloved by children and their caregivers around the world. View titles by Yusuke Yonezu
"[One] of the more interesting items that have cropped up in my office this week . . . If you’ve seen Yonezu’s other board books you’ll know what to expect. Good thick lines and bright colors. This one has loads of cut outs as well. Plus it’s hard to resist the back of the book." —Elizabeth Bird, blogs.slj.com

"An engaging, visually appealing introduction to basic shapes, developmentally appropriate for infants and toddlers." —Kirkus Reviews

"Big fun. Both clever and beautiful, this board book uses die-cut holes, bright colors, and clean, sophisticated graphic design to help toddlers identify all the circles around them." —Maria Russo, NYTimes.com

"In a guessing-game-style board book built around colors and shapes, Yonezu asks readers to imagine what objects circles of various colors could form, with die-cuts helping to provide some answers. “What can a yellow circle make?” reads one page, beneath a die-cut circle; turning the page reveals a pair of yellow circles: one has become the sun, the other an egg. Outlined in chunky black lines, Yonezu’s images are instantly recognizable, with two blue circles becoming car wheels and eyeglasses and four black buttons turning into buttonholes and ladybug spots."– Publishers Weekly

"SQUARES and CIRCLES add new twists to the standard shapes concept books… die-cuts enhance the simple, saturated-hued illustrations by adding an element of concreteness – and stretching children’s brains."– Horn Book

"Using die-cut circular holes in the pages and colorful illustrations, Yusuke Yonezu takes curious children on a unique little journey into the world of circles….What makes this book special is that it opens up the door to allow children to consider what a circle can be. It also helps them learn a little about numbers and colors."–Through The Looking Glass
