The little marmot Bruno plays with his friends in the meadow. But as winter approaches, ,it is time for hibernation. Yet "I can't sleep!", Bruno says grumpily. His friends the goat, the rabbit, the swallows all want him to come with them for the winter. But he worries about the rocks, the cold, the wind. Instead, he goes to sleep, as a little marmot should, and dreams of exciting adventures with them all.
