William H. Hooks

William H. Hooks was born and raised on a farm in North Carolina, where his great-grandmother told him many stories about relatives who had pulled up stakes and headed west in horse-drawn wagons. These stories were part of his inspiration for Pioneer Cat. He has written more than 40 other books for children, including magical picture books such as The Legend of the Christmas Rose and The Mighty Santa Fe.
