Beto quiere jugar a la fiesta de té con Cora, pero su hermana mayor solo quiere ser pirata. Para convencer a Cora, Beto crea un mapa hacia un delicioso tesoro escondido. ¡Pero Cora termina en el lugar equivocado! ¿Encontrará Cora el tesoro antes de que Beto se lo coma todo?

Storytelling Math celebra a los niños que usan las matemáticas en sus aventuras diarias mientras juegan, construyen y descubren el mundo que los rodea. El tesoro de bayas de Beto es una exploración divertida del mapeo, con personajes chicanxs (mexicoamericanes).

Beto wants to play tea party with Cora, but his big sister just wants to be a pirate. To get Cora on board, Beto makes a map to a delicious hidden treasure. But Cora ends up in the wrong place! Will Cora find the treasure before Beto eats it all?

Storytelling Math celebrates children using math in their daily adventures as they play, build, and discover the world around them. Beto’s Berry Treasure is a playful exploration of mapping, featuring Chicanx (Mexican American) characters.
Jenny Lacika creció en Santa Fe, Nuevo México, donde aprendió a trabajar en equipo con un hermano mayor y un hermano menor. Se graduó del MIT después de descubrir cómo las matemáticas pueden derribar muros y abrir puertas. Jenny es la autora de Again, Essie?, que ganó el premio Mathical. Vive en su ciudad natal con su esposo y dos hijos.

Jenny Lacika grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she learned to work together with an older brother and a younger brother. She graduated from MIT after discovering how math could break down walls and open doors. Jenny is the author of Again, Essie?, winner of the Mathical Award. She lives in her hometown with her husband and two kids.

Go on a pirate adventure in this bilingual book for Young children as part of the Storytelling Math series. A young boy with brown hair and blue glasses named Beto enjoys playing with his sister. His sister, Cora, with long brown hair, loves to pretend to be a pirate. Beto has an idea for how to get his sister to play with him. Beto gathers a basket of colorful berries as treasure and he creates a treasure map for Cora. Cora plays along but the first few maps need editing. Beto makes the map more accurate and clear for Cora, When Cora does find Beto in the kitchen he has already eaten all the treasure! The two gather a crew of stuffed animals to find more treasure together! Written in both English and Spanish this book highlights math concepts such as spatial awareness and perspective as well as social studies and interpersonal concepts. A great read for an elementary school classroom.
